My brother thought it would be cool to write a song about a giant who picked trees for flowers. I thought that would be a cool explanation for the deforestation and strange monoliths on Easter Island. Thus, a song was made!
lyrics
Five times my glory's size,
We weren't seeing eye to eye
I fled talking over her head,
To pick forgiveness from a flowerbed.
And the island held its breath,
As the weeping willow wept to death
After pulling it roots an all,
Someone called "that's the last tree left!"
I carved her out a thousand clones,
So she would never feel alone,
With my monolith colonnade raised,
Someone brayed "that's the last of stone!"
But what was I supposed to weed,
with these knuckles the width of knees,
She climbed to my ear in tears,
whispered "this isn't what we need."
(They blame me for the faith I robbed;
Being a giant doesn't make me God.)
Starving village at the Sandy rise,
Shrunken visages with angry eyes,
At sundown, she stands my side,
Banned to paddle out until we die.
I started swelling from the salty sea,
Until the water was a part of me.
We washed aground on a foreign shore,
Casting shadows on the navy corps!
She hiked to my eyes in fear,
yelling "That was an act of War!"
Momma called me special,
Daddy called me strong
Island called me monster,
That's what I've become.
the Giant of Easter Island
At the siren of the final wave,
Lying on the bullets where my body gave,
She climbed to my monster's cage, claiming that "it didn't have to end this way."
And just as I was going home,
The dust settled on a marigold.
She said: "I never asked for roses, only a safe place to plant my soul."
Momma called me special,
Daddy called me strong
Island called me monster,
Look what you've become,
the Giant of Easter Island!
